How to use it

  1. 1

    Upload the file

Press "Upload DOCX" in the bar under the editor and choose a .docx file from your computer or phone.

  2. 2

    Check and clean

The document appears on the left and its HTML on the right. Press "Clean All" if you want the shortest possible markup.

  3. 3

    Copy or download

Use "Copy" to put the HTML on your clipboard or "Download .html" to save it as a file.

What is kept from the Word file

Heading 1–6 styles become <h1>–<h6>, bold and italic become <strong> and <em>, bulleted and numbered lists become <ul> and <ol>, and tables, hyperlinks and images are carried over. Fonts, colours, margins and page layout are left out on purpose, so the HTML follows the design of the website it is pasted into.

.docx and .doc

The converter reads the modern .docx format used by Word 2007 and later, Google Docs exports and LibreOffice. For an old .doc file, open it in Word or Google Docs, choose "Save as" .docx, and upload that. You can also simply copy the text from the document and paste it into the editor.

Images in the document

Pictures inside the file are embedded directly in the HTML, so the result works as a single file. For a website it is better to upload the pictures to your own media library and replace the image addresses, which keeps the page small and fast.

Questions

Is the DOCX file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is opened and converted by JavaScript running in your own browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.

Is there a file size or page limit?

There is no fixed limit and no daily quota. Very large documents with many pictures take longer because all the work happens on your device.

Why do my headings come out as normal paragraphs?

That happens when the heading was made by enlarging the text instead of applying a Heading style in Word. Select the line in the editor and use the H1, H2 or H3 buttons to fix it.
